Amazon Gift Cards or Amazon GVs are very popular prepaid instruments. The popularity of Amazon Gift Cards stems from the Amazon Pay wallet, which can be used for making various payments across a wide range of use cases. You can load Amazon Gift Cards onto the Amazon Pay wallet and use the balance wherever the Amazon Pay wallet works. Amazon Gift Cards work for insurance payments, utility bill payments, mobile recharges, booking flight, train or bus tickets, and they work even for hotel bookings. You can use Amazon GVs even for paying for orders on Zomato, Swiggy and other food ordering services. Furthermore, you can use them for paying for Ola, Uber cab rides too. Not to mention that Amazon Gift Cards can be used for paying for nearly all purchases on the Amazon website.
How to get Amazon Gift Cards at a Discount?
Where do I use Amazon Gift Cards?
While I have already mentioned popular use cases, I primarily use Amazon GVs to buy things on Amazon, pay insurance premiums, cover my food orders, and pay for my cab rides.
Insurance premium payment is a major use case, as many credit cards have stopped giving reward points for paying insurance premiums. Thus, I use Amazon Gift Cards for the same.
How to get Amazon Gift Cards at a discount?
Below are some of the websites or apps from which you can buy Amazon GVs at a discount.
Bank’s app/website
Here is the list of bank websites that offer Amazon Gift Cards.

Do keep in mind that only cards issued by the bank work on its own website. Further, most of the websites have a certain monthly limit, as mentioned above, beyond which you cannot buy Amazon Gift Cards.
Among the credit cards I have, I generally use the HDFC SmartBuy, Axis GiftEdge(Apply Now), Axis GrabDeals(Apply Now), and Amex RewardMultiplier for buying Amazon Gift Cards. The reason I use these websites to buy Amazon Gift Cards is simply because most of these sites give accelerated reward points for buying Amazon GVs. This not only helps me achieve the annual spend targets but also improves my reward rate on spends.
Did you know? Until a few years ago, most of these platforms used to offer discounts on buying Amazon Gift Cards, plus offer accelerated reward points too. Thus, one would have substantial savings. However, nowadays these platforms charge a convenience fee/ platform fee over and above the face value of the Amazon GVs.
For example, HDFC SmartBuy now charges 3.5%+GST for buying Amazon GVs. However, if you own HDFC Infinia(Apply Now) or the HDFC Diners Black(Apply Now), you get a10-16% reward rate. Adjusted for the surcharge, you still end up getting ~6-12% reward rate. Not bad as such.
Similarly, the Amex RewardMultiplier(Apply Now) platform now has a surcharge of 1.5%+GST, but depending on the card variant, you can earn up to 8% reward rate on buying Amazon GVs.
ICICI iShop portal until now has no surcharge on buying Amazon GVs, and it offers a reward rate of 3-18%.
Other apps/websites
Below are a few other popular websites/apps that sell Amazon Gift Cards.

The most popular one is obviously Amazon itself. Amazon website/app sells Amazon Gift Cards with no surcharge or convenience fee. The catch here is that they have some complex rules around how many GVs can be purchased. Below is the snapshot of the T&Cs found on their website.

Another popular website is www.maximize.money, which charges around 1% surcharge for Amazon Gift Cards. There are a couple of new apps, such as Magnify and SaveSage, that also offer Amazon GVs at a small surcharge. The SaveSage app offers Amazon GVs at just a 0.25% surcharge. This is among the lowest I have seen.
Are these discounts only applicable to Amazon GVs?
No. These portals or websites offer gift cards from many brands. For eg, Myntra, Flipkart, Croma, BigBasket, Zomato, Swiggy, Swiggy, Tanishq, Kalyan, etc. In fact, the discounts on these brands are often higher than those offered on Amazon GVs. Therefore, if you have a purchase planned, say on Croma, you can very well buy Croma Gift Cards from these websites at a discount and get an additional discount on your purchase.
Do bear in mind
Do note that most of these websites/apps now have a surcharge/convenience fee added. Thus, be mindful of these charges while calculating your reward rate.
Further, also bear in mind that Amazon Gift Cards have only a 12-month validity; any unused balance in the gift card goes to waste after that. So don’t just hoard the GVs for the sake of it.
Conclusion
Amazon Gift Cards are akin to pseudo cash as they can be used at numerous places for making payments. As mentioned, I primarily use HDFC SmartBuy, Axis GiftEdge and Amex RewardMultiplier for buying Amazon Gift Cards.
I have tried to cover as many websites and apps as possible that accept credit cards for buying Amazon Gift Cards. In case I have missed out on any, please share, will add them to the post. Also, do point out any mistakes, happy to correct them.

Great info! Are the i-Shop reward rates based on the specific card variant?
Also looking forward to your review of Axis Horizon.
