BOB Cashback Credit Card

BOB Cards has launched the BOB Cashback credit card in the crowded segment of cashback credit cards. Like most other cashback credit cards, the BOB Cashback credit card gives 5% cashback on online spending and 1% on offline spending. However, is the BOB Cashback credit card actually worth adding to your wallet, or should you stick with the other cashback credit cards?  Let’s dive deep and find out.

Thoughts on the BOB Cashback Credit Card

Positives of the BOB Cashback Card

5% cashback

The only reason to even consider the BOB Cashback Credit Card is the flat 5% cashback on online spending. No complicated reward points, no confusing accelerator categories — just straightforward cashback. Yes, there is a monthly cap of 1500 cashback, but for moderate online shoppers, it still delivers decent value.

Automatic cashback crediting

One thing I genuinely like about BOBCARD’s recent products is that cashback is auto credited every month. This “no-maintenance” structure is great for users who want an uncomplicated experience. Swipe, forget, and the card does the rest.

Flexible fee plan

The fee structure is actually quite friendly. Instead of forcing a high annual fee, BOBCARD offers a flexible model—₹49/month or ₹499 annually. For most users testing out a cashback card or wanting a secondary card for online purchases, this flexibility is useful.

Negatives of the BOB Cashback Credit Card

Long list of exclusions

All BOB cards have a long list of exclusions. As I mentioned in my BOB Eterna(Apply Now) post too, you don’t get any reward points or cashback on spends like rent, wallet, government spending, education, etc. Strangely, BOB has even excluded MCCs belonging to supermarkets, convenience stores, retail stores and fast-food restaurants. As a result, you won’t get any reward points on spending at your local Kirana stores, D-mart, or even on Zepto. Thus, likely that you won’t get reward points even on Swiggy Instamart, Blinkit, etc.

4 transactions every month to get 5% cashback

To earn the 5% cashback, you must make at least four transactions in a month. This is fine for regular users, but for many people who only use a card during specific sale seasons or high-value purchases, this becomes a chore. A cashback card that rewards users only after they meet transaction hurdles ends up killing the simplicity it tries to sell.

No milestone benefits or fee waiver

Strangely, BOB Cashback has no milestone benefits. Not even an annual fee waiver.

Comparison with other cashback credit cards

Quite natural that the BOB Cashback credit card gets compared to other cashback credit cards in the market. Especially, the SBI Cashback(Apply Now), SBI Phonepe Black, Tata Neu Infinity(Apply Now), HSBC Live+(Apply Now), and HDFC Swiggy(Apply Now).

BOB Cashback Credit Card Comparison

The BOB Cashback credit card pales in comparison to the above popular cashback credit cards, as most of these credit cards not only offer 5% or higher cashback but also offer a better base reward rate. That’s not all, most of these cashback cards have fewer excluded categories and also milestone benefits.

Though not promoted nowadays due to lack of referral benefits, even the Amex MRCC would be a better cashback credit card if you can reach the monthly milestone of 20k spending and 4 transactions of 1500+. The 2400 monthly reward points, when converted to statement credit, will give a good 3% cashback.

Conclusion

The BOB Cashback credit card is an underwhelming cashback credit card. As mentioned above, there are many better alternatives rather than applying for the BOB Cashback credit card.

Don’t let the “5% online cashback” marketing fool you. Dig into the exclusion list, understand your spending patterns, and choose a card that actually works for your lifestyle. The BOB Cashback card might look tempting at first glance, but it’s a pass from my desk.
